Protocol - Thrombosis - Venous - non-catheter-related

Add to My Toolkit
Description

This protocol from the Cure Sickle Cell Initiative (CureSCi) asks about the participant’s history of non-catheter-related deep venous thrombosis. Additional information is captured about the types and history of deep venous thromboses.

Specific Instructions

The Sickle Cell Disease Pregnancy Working Group (WG) notes that central venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) and stroke are additional thrombotic events to consider as part of a thrombosis history. The WG recommends that investigators also consider these related protocols : Thromboprophylaxis and Thrombosis - Catheter-related. They also suggest that investigators capture the start and stop dates of anticoagulation as well as the trimester.

Measure Name

Thrombosis

Release Date

August 5, 2024

Definition

Thrombosis is a blockage within a vessel (artery or vein), caused by a blood clot.

Purpose

Participants with certain inherited and acquired blood disorders, including sickle cell disease, have an overall increased risk of developing thrombosis. Additionally, certain acquired factors, such as pregnancy and central line placement, also increase the risk of thrombosis.

Keywords

Thrombosis, blood clot, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), venous thromboembolism (VTE)
